Yes. The villa sites are concentrated within a specific elevation range to capture summer breezes and panoramic views of the city and country side. 

The summers in Florence are hot and the shape of the valley limits cooling breezes. Urban aristocrats in the Renaissance escaped to the hillsides for cooler temperatures and the proximity of nature. Views were required elements of desirable villa sites. After the Middle Ages the rule of law was reestablished when the city-states of Italy maintained armies to secure the city and countryside. This change eliminated the need for fortified castles outside the city and permitted the development of outward oriented villas and gardens.
