Dr. Dave Tank is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Idaho and the Director of the Stillinger Herbarium (ID). He received his Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Washington in 2006, and was a postdoc at Yale University from 2006-2008 before joining the faculty at the University of Idaho in 2008. He is broadly interested in the investigation of the patterns and processes that shape plant biodiversity. Research in the Tank lab employs molecular phylogenetic and phylogeographic methods to understand these patterns at multiple scales- from relationships within and among closely related species (e.g. Castilleja), to deep divergences in the flowering plant Tree of Life. Tank’s research also includes investigating diversity dynamics in plant communities, and integrates floristic studies with detailed information on phylogenetic relatedness and measures of functional and genomic diversity (www.phylodiversity.net/dtank/). Finally, Dave is passionate about field experiences for students, and along with teaching Advanced Field Botany, he collects extensively for his own research.
