Course Requirements:

Norton Anthology of American Literature, Volumes A and B

* Willingness to engage with new ideas, think critically, become engaged, be creative

*Adhere to Academic Honesty and show respect for Instructor and Fellow Students

* Consistent attendance; you will be excused only for illness or family emergencies unless you get my approval for an  absence. Excessive absence will cause you to fail the course.

* Active Participation; Come to class having done the assigned reading and prepared to participate actively and even LEAD class discussion. Complete all writing assignments.   (35%)

* Present a 10-15 minute mini-lecture on a key cultural concept or metaphor using the American Passages website including the  Slide Show tool of audio/visual material. (15%)

*4 short analytical essays (50%)
