Monte Carlo Risk Assessment

Due Dates: See Schedule

Resources
Manly Chapters 11 and 12

Lesson Description
This module introduces you to probabilistic methods in risk assessment.  The first objective of the module is to understand the structure of a risk assessment, to know that risk assessments consist of four parts, to know the basics of how each of these four analyses are carried out, and to discuss some of the shortcomings of traditional risk assessment.  The second objective is to introduce you to the use of probabilistic methods, specifically how uncertainty can be propagated through a risk assessment using Monte Carlo methods.  The third objective is to understand how the information on uncertainty can be used in environmental decision making through the use of techniques in decision analysis and to present an example of a Monte Carlo risk assessment and subsequent decision analysis.

This week, work through the three sub-modules and review Chapter 11 and 12 in the textbook.
