Flow Visualization in Acoustically
Levitated Water Droplets:
Terry Stephens M.S.
Particle
path line pictures were created by utilizing a laser sheet to illuminate
fluorescent particles within the cross sectional flow inside droplets
suspended within the 3-axis levitator and air system. Time exposures
ranged from 1/60s to 1/15s. Air jet velocity 26-30 ft/sec. These images
below are to scale with the 100th inch ruler shown. Each droplet
is rated on:
Size:
Big > 5mm or Small < 5mm.
Shape: Round
= meaning no acoustic distortion or Flat = moderate to severe distortion
Flow:
Good = Hadamard-Rybczynski (HR) circulatory flow or Bad = random flow
