Basic Laboratory Safety

Howard Hughes Institute Safety Course

I Goggles

I can't emphasis enough the importance of goggles. Be sure to store your goggles in your desk as they might become contaminated if left on the lab bench.

II Gas Tanks

The gas tanks are under exteremely high pressure (up to 2500 psi) and therefore are a hazard. Never move gas tanks around the lab without their protective collar or cap. Please ask me for help if you are unsure of anything.

III University Safety Courses

The UI Health and Safety Office will offer a new (fall 2000) set of short courses aimed at laboratory safety. I will require your attendance for each module.

IV ASK QUESTIONS

Please ask me questions for anything you are unsure of, there are no dumb questions.
