Course Description: History of Rock examines the development of Rock and Roll from its pre-1950s roots to the present. Important artists and genres are considered in their social contexts and online notes are augmented by an extensive listening list as well as video clips.

Grading: Your grade will be based on the following:

Tests (4)         800 points
Paper (1)        100 points
Attendance     100 points

Attendance policy: You may miss 3 classes without penalty. Beyond that, for each unexcused absence you will lose 2 attendance points.


Tests: All the tests will be written and will include short answer, multiple choice, essay, and listening components. The final exam will be comprehensive and will require you to identify specific musical styles or genres. The final exam will be on Friday, December 16  from 12:30-2:30 pm for  section 2.
