Objective:
The student will learn reinforced concrete design in accordance with the latest ACI Code, including beam flexure and shear desing, cracking and deflection control, developement and splice length, and column design.

Prerequisite: CE 342

Reinforced Concrete, Mechanics and Design, 3rd ed. by MacGregor, published by Prentice-Hall.

Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete, ACI 318-95 and Commentary ACI 318R-95. American Concrete Institute.

Reading:
The reading assignments indicated in the course calendar correspond to sections in the text. Read the assigned section before each lecture.

Homework:
Weekly homework sets are due on the dates shown on the course syllabus/calendar.

Class Participation
Students working in pairs will be assigned to prepare and present example problems in lab.

Project:
A design project will be completed throughout the semester. Design groups will be assigned to work on the project. Tasks and due dates are indicated on the course calendar.

Exams:
There will be three midterm examinations. The design project is given in lieu of a final exam.

Participation - 20%
