Objective: Become acquainted with the theory and application of finite elements to a variety of engineering applications including heat flow, fluid flow, structural mechanics, and elasticity
Prerequisite: CE 342, ME 341or permission
Req'd Text: Fish, J. and Belytschko, T.. A First Course in Finite Elements, published by J. Wiley & Sons.
Reading: The reading assignments indicated in the course calendar correspond to sections in the text. Read the assigned section before each lecture.
Homework: Homework sets will be assigned on an approximately weekly basis.
Exams: There will be three midterm exams.
Project: A semester project will be assigned involving the application of finite element analysis to various engineering problems. For on-campus students, an oral presentation and written report will be made based on the project. Off-campus students will prepare a written report on the project.
Grading: Homework - 15% Midterms - 60% Project - 25%
