Your personal workspace will be in clan/projects. Set up another link to clan/projects. There
are no quotas for how much data you can store in your account. Please be moderate and keep
your data well managed. The size of workspaces are checked periodically and you may be
asked to reduce the amount of data you keep on the file server. The Clan file server is backed
up monthly, however keep a back-up of your own
data.
Lab
policy: Equipment is provided in the lab to help users accomplish their project
goals and objectives. If there is something that you need, then come and talk with us first! Failure to follow the rules could result in your
account being frozen. Please adhere to the following lab policies:
1) Please do not bring personal hardware or software into the lab.
If you need to load data for a class, please contact Eva Strand (evas@uidaho.edu).
2) Do not download any software on the machines
without permission.
3) The HP 5M laser printer is called yogi. Please do not put 'used' paper into the printer.
4) The last person to leave the lab should turn off ALL
lights and be sure both doors are closed.
5) Become familiar with: Executive Order 98-05:
Establishing Statewide Policies on Computer, the
Internet and Electronic Mail Usage. It is posted on the
bulletin board in the lab. We will not tolerate an inappropriate
use of the Internet.
6) Please leave food and drinks outside
the lab.
7) If there are hardware or software related problems
in the lab, please contact Eva Strand at 5-5779 or email (evas@uidaho.edu).
You can also write your problem on the north wall in the lab.

Mission
Established in 1995, the Remote Sensing and GIS (RS/GIS) Lab is a
resource for the College of Natural Resources (CNR) and supports faculty, students and
staff from all departments in the CNR at the University of Idaho.
This lab is actively involved in teaching, research and outreach using the
computer-based technologies of geographic information systems, remote sensing techniques and global positioning tools. Our lab's primary mission
focuses on education related to the utilization of spatial and non-spatial
digital data and tools for the manipulation, analyzing and storing of these
data sets to provide lab users with tools to manage the natural and cultural features of the landscape.
In 1997, NASA awarded the CNR $216,000 to upgrade the existing
RSGIS Lab to a NASA Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing. This grant allowed us to build on the existing RSGIS lab infrastructure to
provide a fully functional teaching and research facility to complement and boost overall campus capabilities. With this grant, the lab has been
renamed to the Inland Northwest Center for Bioregional Analysis. Check this link for a description of the facilities and the abstract of our proposal
to NASA's Mission to Planet Earth program.
In 2000, the College of Natural Resources upgraded the NT workstations and added three
seats to the teaching facility. The upgrade enables the lab to offer 'cutting edge' GIS and
Remote Sensing software and technology in a 15 seat computer lab.
In
2007 the RSGIS lab received a generous donation from Tom and Teita Reveley
and thanks to these funds the lab infrastructure has been upgraded to a
first class facility for geospatial analysis with the capacity to
accommodate up to 24 students. The lab name was changed to the Geospatial
Learning Center and a Geospatial Steering Committee with participants from
all CNR departments and the Department of Geography was formed.
