The Bowl Story |
|
|
|
|
1. First rough cut
reveals rotten wood. |
2. Beautiful spalting
but lots of decay, too. |
3. Turning away decayed
wood looking for solid wood. |
4. Final outside shape
and wood is still soft. |
|
|
|
|
5. Starting the face
cut. |
6. Turning away the
outside bark. |
7.Bowl remounted in chuck
to turn open face. |
8. At 2300 rpm edges
become transparent. Imagine trimming an airplane propeller while it's
running! |
|
|
|
|
9. Careful shaping of
inside curve. |
10. Bowl reversed to sand
and finish off bottom
pedestal. |
11. One coat of Tung Oil
applied after sanding. |
12. A natural-bark-edge
Paper Birch bowl.
Now you know the
bowl story! |
