Laboratory
We have three laboratories. Our organic chemistry lab (~1450 sq. ft., Renfrew Hall 326) is outfitted with four fume hoods and equipped for modern synthetic organic chemistry. Our biotechnology lab (~650 sq. ft., Renfrew Hall 314) is outfitted with four hoods and instrumentation needed for the synthesis, purification, and characterization of functionalized oligonucleotides and nanomaterials including DNA synthesizers, HPLC systems, temperature-controlled UV/VIS spectrometers and fluorimeters, fluorescence and luminescence plate readers, thermal cyclers and gel electrophoresis instrumentation. Our BSL2-level laboratory (~420 sq. ft., Renfrew Hall 301+302), is outfitted two chemical fume hoods and one laminar flow hood and is equipped for mammalian cell culture studies and molecular biological experiments. Our newly acquired inverted fluorescence microscope is housed in this room. In addition, we have access to 500 MHz NMR spectrometers (1H, 13C, 15N, 19F, 31P, DEPT, COSY, HSQC, HMBC), high resolution ESI/MALDI-MS, dynamic light-scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and confocal Raman microscopes, and other specialized instrumentation through internal collaborators and instrument centers. |
