The Big Buddha of Le Shan County near Chengdu.  The Buddha is sitting against Le Shan Mount facing the river.  You can tell how small tourists appear at the foot of the Big Buddha.   This picture was taken aboard a pleasure boat sailing passing through the buddha.

Monkeys in Action   Visit atop of Er Mei Mountain (1999), about two hour bus ride from Chengdu city.   Local people dye these native monkeys in gold color and train them to solute to tourists.  It costs about 5 Chinese yuan (60 cents US$) to take pictures with these moneys.  The money trainers are licensed by local government to do the business.  When I returned to Chengdu in 2000, the golden monkeys were gone, probably out of the protest of animal rights group regarding the reatment of the monkeys.

Dining in local restaurant  We stopped to dine in a local restaurant.  We ordered from the local menu.  Food in Sichuan area is generally hot and spicy.  People use lots of pepper and spicy chili in their cooking.  Green tea is usually served along every meal.  Food in Sichuan surely tastes wonderful.
