Kali

Kali is Shiva's consort, whom she is standing over, and conveys the terrifying aspects of the female principle, in contrast to the benign aspects represented in Lakshmi.  Kali often is seen with sword and digger in hands, her tongue hanging out, dripping with blood, a necklace of human skulls, and wearing a tiger's skin. Though her hands are blood stained, one is often raised in a gesture of protection or assurance in the midst of destruction.
