The Shay

By July of 2008 I had converted over from a DC system to a simple DCC system, opting for Bachmann's E-Z Command Control Center.  It was easy to switch over, with no wiring changes needed.  Now I can take full advantage of running all my locomotives simultaneously, though when I do so I am typically courting with some coordination issues and a possible collision.  Along with the Bachmann Three-truck Shay and the Bachmann Baldwin Ten Wheeler (4-6-0), both of which are DCC-sound equipped, I soldered a DDC decoder into a little Bachman DCC-ready saddle tank switcher (0-6-0).  I did have to make some adjustments within the cab of the switcher to accommodate the decoder. These three have became the backbone of my locomotive power, which is more than enough for this size layout.  I really like the sound effects that I have with the Shay and Ten Wheeler.  I also have a DCC-equipped Bachmann Richmond Modern American 4-4-0, but it is rather "challenged" when pulling my logging and support cars up the 3% grade and tight curve!
