procedure

To test our hypothesis we recorded the indoor temperature of Stookey's chicken coop in 5 different locations throughout the space at 5 minute intervals for six days.  We also recorded the outside temperature during these days.  By comparing the inside temperatures in different locations with the outdoor temperature during the same period we were able to evaluate how well the building's envelope was able to store the heat generated throughout the day.  Heat sources included solar radiation, (6) 250w heat lamps for the baby chicks and ducks, and the baby chicks, ducks, and chickens themselves.  To record this data we employed six Hobo temperature loggers.(see picture below)

The hobos were placed at varying heights and locations to determine the effects of temperature stratification and the difference between the two wall materials, straw bale construction on the South wall  and Faswall block on the North wall. (see diagram below for Hobo locations)  Click on HOBO locations for collected information.
