Bookpeople, a bookstore in downtown Moscow,
Idaho has an original section in the front of the building and a new addition
at the rear of the store. The front of the store is lit by 70 100
watt light bulbs, the section in the rear uses fluorescent tubes for
lighting. We contend that heat generated by the bulbs in the
front section does not contribute enough heat to the rear of the store
to offset the heat loss through poor insulation and air leaks. See Hypothesis
There is a noticeable difference in temperature from the front section to the rear. We will show that the lights in front contribute enough heat to the the space that the HVAC system does not run during store hours. click to enlarge |
