1) Is there a basement? If yes- is it used and is it
heated? Yes, there is a basement in the Bookpeople. The space is used
for storage and there is no internal heating unit
2) Where is the thermostat located? And what do you keep
it set on? There are two thermostats in the space. One thermostat is
located in the middle of the store and the second is located in the rear of
the store near the back entrance. During winter months when the heater is
active, the thermostat is set at 68 degrees. When the air conditioning is
used in the summer, the temperature is set at 70 degrees
3) Do you notice if or when the heat comes on in the
space? No, there is no apparent feeling when the furnace turns on
4) Is the space heated at night? No setbacks are used
in the space. We keep the heat on 68 degrees continuously
5) What type of lamps are installed in the main
reading/sales room (wattage)? Do you have empty/spare lamp boxes? The
lamps in the space are 100 watts and there are no empty lamp boxes
6) Is there a cooling system? Yes, and it is set at
70 degrees when in use
7) If not; does it get hot during the summer? Do
you prop open a door or use other strategies to help cool the space? No,
we keep the doors closed when not in use
8) Do customers ever comment on the temperature? What
are your comments on the thermal properties of the space? Customers
rarely comment on the temperature. As far as the thermal comfort, the space
usually stays warm all year
9) Is there insulation in either the old or new ceilings?
Yes, there are new ceilings in the front half of the store and not in the
addition in the back
10) Can we photocopy your power bill? No, because it
would not be a reliable source for just seeing heating/cooling costs. There
are other things evaluated on the bill that would be irrelevant.
11) Do you notice a constant rise in temperature during
the day? At the end of the day it is definitely warmer with the effect
of the lights and the heat being generated from the coffee machines
12) What is the wattage of the coffee machines? They
are at least 220 watts
