The most distinctive characteristic of the East
Coast style is the use of flat ceilings
made of wood beams and rubble. This created a problem for the
Mayans because the wood beams were built
into the cement and the whole roof collapsed
when the timbers rotted. The Mayans tried to counteract this
problem by adding columns inside the rooms to help support the roofs. |
