Module 7.2: Activity < Back

An underlying theme of these last few modules and your text readings has been that human resource management needs to be aware of and comply with all Federal, State, and local laws and regulations related to employment issues.  Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to oversee organization's compliance with many of these laws, with the ability to investigate complaints and take offending companies to court.

Go to the website of the EEOC (www.eeoc.gov) and explore the information here.  In particular, go to the major heading "Statistics" find the "Enforcement Statistics" link.  Search for the answers to the following questions:

a.  Has the percentage of sexual harassment charges filed by men increased or decreased between 1997 and 2007?

b.  What percentage of sexual harassment claims filed in 2007  were found to have "reasonable cause"?

c. What were the monetary benefits the EEOC helped obtain for those who were found to have been victims of age-discrimination in 2007.

d.  Has the number of religion-based charges filed increased or decreased from 2006 to 2007?
