Overview


Imagine an organization as a entity that acquires resources, transforms those resources into goods and/or services and then sells the goods/services at a price that is higher than the costs associated with purchasing and transforming the resources. The topic in this module is operations management; in a simple sense operations management is the set of actions we do to develop, maintain, and improve the process of acquiring and transforming resources.
 

Objectives


After completing this module, you will be able to:

1. Describe the transformation process.
2. Define the term "value chain".
3. Differentiate between value chain management and supply chain management.
4. Describe the six requirements for successful value chain.
5. Identify the obstacles for successful value chain management.
6. Explain how problem solving teams are used in operations management.
7. Describe the role that benchmarking plays in operations management.
8. Explain the link between continuous improvement and work process engineering and operations management
