Overview |
This module introduces you to the critical role planning plays
in the management of organizations. The process of planning
prompts managers and employees to think about the end results
they want for their organization or department and then the
various means by which best to accomplish those ends. You will
discover that while there are different techniques to use in the
planning process, the outcome of effective planning is improved
organizational performance. As you read this chapter, think
about the role planning plays in your own life. In what ways
have your used the planning process to achieve your education,
or your own personal life and career goals? Also in this module
you will be introduced to what are sometimes known as grand
strategies. Pay particular attention to how firms formulate a
specific competitive strategy from these larger grand
strategies. What do firms think about or consider when they
formulate their specific competitive strategy? Can you think
about different businesses with which you are familiar and
determine what their particular competitive strategy might be?
