Overview |
This module introduces you to the basic structural dimensions
which are the building blocks of organizational design. The
choices managers make for their organization regarding these
dimensions can facilitate the firm achieving its strategic
goals….or it can hamper such attainment. For instance, if you
were pursing a strategy of growth through innovation you would
want to encourage lots of open communication throughout your
firm, wouldn’t you, with relatively few rules and restrictions
which could inhibit trial and error, with individuals having
fairly wide job duties and responsibilities. Conversely, if your
firm was in economic trouble, you might want greater control
over your resources, with more restrictions and rules about what
was allowable. Additionally, such structural choices can
profoundly influence the culture of the organization.
