Friday, March 28

7:30 a.m. – Depart Moscow (assemble at east end of Sweet Avenue parking lot, UI campus)

·        Stop en route at Fourth of July Pass and John Mullan monument

10 a.m. – Arrive Cataldo; tour Mission of the Sacred Heart View Mission Flats; overview of heavy metal pollution by Phil Cenera, Coeur d’Alene Tribe

12 p.m. – Leave Cataldo

12:15 – Arrive Kellogg, lunch at Zany’s, gondola base meet with Vince Rinaldi, director, Silver Valley Economic Development Council and high school seniors from Kellogg and Wallace

2:00 – Check in, Wallace Inn, 100 Front St., Wallace, ID, 800-643-2386 or 208-752-1252

2:30 – Walking tour of Wallace business district: Begin at Northern Pacific Depot, end at Mining Museum

4:15 – Visit Mining Museum.  Optional: shopping in downtown Wallace.

5:30 – Happy hour at Wallace Elks with local historians

6:30 – Dinner at Wallace Elks

8:00 – “Burke” video, discussion led by Connie & Irv Broughton

 

Saturday, March 29

8:00 – Breakfast with Bill Woolum (Kellogg native, Lane Community College instructor) at Wallace Inn

9:30 – Burke Canyon bus tour with Connie & Irv Broughton

10:25 -- Leave for Kellogg, stop en route at Sunshine Mine memorial

10:45  – Crystal Gold Mine tour

11:50 – Bus to Kellogg, gondola base

12:00 -- Gondola to Silver Mountain Resort

12:30 – Lunch at Alpenrose dining room at lodge

1:15 – Presentation: Long-range plans for Silver Mountain (resort, golf course) by Brian Rhodes, general manager, and J. Murph Yule, consultant for Eagle Crest Properties

2:30 – Return to Kellogg

3:00 – Bavarian Village and Wardner architectural tour

3:30 – Return to Wallace Inn

4:00 – Oasis Bordello Museum tour (Optional)

6:00 – Dinner at Albi’s in Wallace

7:30 -- Sing-along of labor and mining songs at Wallace Elks Club

9:00 – Optional: “Wallace After Dark” walking tour (Sweet’s, Wallace Corner, 1313 Club)

Sunday, March 30

8:30 – Continental breakfast, Wallace Inn

Morning -- Walking/biking on Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, weather permitting

OR

Walking tour of Wallace residential district, including South Hill stairs

OR

Church services in Wallace

12 – Check out of Wallace Inn, pick up box lunches

12:15 – Bus departs Wallace

·        at Kingston, take side trip up north fork of Coeur d’Alene River

1:30 p.m. – return to Moscow via St. Maries

·        stop at original site of Sacred Heart Mission

·        reflections on the trip: rolling discussion

4 p.m. – arrive in Moscow
