2010 Dairy Budgets
Idaho ranked fourth in the nation for milk production in 2009. While the number of dairies fell by 71%, from 2,769 in 1987 to 811 in 2007, the number of dairy cows in Idaho has increased by 240%, from 157,665 in 1987 to 536,463 in 2007. The average herd size has increased from 57 to 661 during that same time period.
Two new budgets were created in 2010, a 2,500-head free stall budget and a 5,000-head open lot budget. These budgets are available as pdfs and also as spreadsheets. Updates are also available for the standard dairy budgets as described below.
