Each student shall present
her/his assigned London area to the class during the term. This oral
presentation shall be accompanied by an optimized Adobe pdf slide show limited to
12 slides, including one slide that summarizes the suggested walk
through the London area with a map (Google and/or openstreetmap.org are
good sources) and notes.
Please upload your presentations to the course
Google Drive folder prior to the due date. They will be available to course members while
in London as well as before and after.
Each of the areas assigned is presented as a
chapter/part chapter in the textbook, London's Contemporary Architecture 6th ed.
Your task to distill, interpret, and analyze information from the text
and corroborating sources as well as provide color images
of and graphics about the area that support or argue against the
author's claims.
Design a walk through the area that takes you to 6–10
(no more!) significant buildings, public spaces, or activities. Make
sure to identify a place to rest or hangout for sketching or having a
cuppa during your planned tour. Note the
architect responsible for each building. Explain why you chose the
places on your walk! Limit your presentation to 8 minutes!
Also suggest the mode of travel to get to your walk's start point from
Victoria Hall and how long it would take and how much it would cost to
get there (Transport for London's web <www.tfl.gov.uk>
can be helpful in sorting modes of transit—including walking—and
fares).
Cite sources for
all images and for all information included in your presentation. Do NOT
simply read the text to your colleagues.
