LIGHTING PORTFOLIO

 Assignment #3: Daylight Model

In order to explore the potential for natural lighting you will study a simple space with potential for improved daylighting.

The experiment. For this study you will build a carefully constructed scale model of your assigned space, representing its current condition. This model should be 2' to 3' in length. Later this model will be remodeled to embody enhancements to its daylighting scheme. Keep this need for flexibility in mind while building the model.

The control. Using your new computer modeling skills, you will also model current conditions in the space in an appropriate software package. The computer models, too, will be remodeled to study potential enhancements. Concurrently, you will investigate the building that you are modeling, discovering the lighting problems, and, if the building is in the Moscow area, measuring the daylight factors of the actual building (electric lights off!). Compare actual, computer, and model measurements.

Remodeling. Propose a new adaptive reuse of your study building and explore integrated electric and daylighting schemes that support your new use.

Presentations. You will present your model and your initial findings on September 30  and then more refined findings on October 12 & 26 and November 9. The final remodel will be presented at the final December 14. For all presentations the time limit is 10 minutes.
