The primary objectives of this research are to contribute to the understanding of:

(1) Annual-centennial scale Antarctic climate variability with emphasis on tropical impact on Antarctic climate as recorded by El Niño penetration at South Pole.

(2) Trace element emissions impacting the high southern latitudes.

(3) Global to regional volcanic sources impacting the high southern latitudes.

(4) Forcing of Antarctic climate.

(5) Ice core density – chemistry – radar reflector associations for purposes of refining glaciochemical interpretations and also the role of chemistry and density as a cause of the time synchronous radar reflectors used to identify temporal changes in snow mass balance.
