Lesson 3: Trigonometry

When we have a right-angled triangle, as shown below, we can name each side for the angel o as the following:

Hypotenuse: the side opposite the right angle
Adjacent: the side next to θ
Opposite: the side furthest from the angle

We can than define the three trigonometric rations as sine θ, cosine θ and tangent θ as follows:

To help remember these you can use SOHCAHTOA

Sin θ = Opposite / Hypotenuse (SOH)
Cos θ = Adjacent / Hypotenuse (CAH)
Tan θ = Opposite / Adjacent (TOA)
