Introduction:
Although treatment options are good, it would be best for
society if we did not have substance abuse or dependence problems in the
first place. Although one may believe that most interventions are
community based, often prevention begins in the home. Further,
decisions made at the worksite or state and federal level can have
significant impacts on substance abuse or dependence. This section
provides a review of various prevention approaches to substance abuse and
describes how well they work. It also will review models specific to
Idaho. Goal:
To learn about various prevention models and how they are used by
individuals, communities, industry, schools, law enforcement, and state
agencies.
