Text :The texts for this class are Interagency Technical References: (1) Sampling Vegetation Attributes (BLM/ST_96/002+173),   (2) Utilization Studies and Residual Measurements   (BLM/ST-96/004+1730) and (3) Measuring & Monitoring Plant Populations   (BLM/RS/ST-98/005+1730)
Field Trips: You cannot learn how to assess vegetation without leaving the classroom! Three required field trips are scheduled.  More details will be given in class.  Mark these on your calendar!

Rangeland Habitat Assessment Field Trip
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday  - Sept. 5-7
(Leave @ 7:00 a.m. Friday . Return by 7:00 p.m. on Sunday)

Riparian Proper Functioning Condition Workshop: Friday, Oct 17 (1:00 - 5:00 p.m.) & Saturday, Oct. 18 (7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.)

Cover Assessment on UI School Forest - Dates To Be Announced and Subject to Change

Reports: Throughout the semester I will give you several assignment on Thursdays.  These assignments  will be due the following Friday. You are free to discuss these assignments with other class members and to work on data with colleagues. However, the reports must by completed individually with proper citation of sources. Use citation format specified for this class.
Late Assignment Policy: Dates of assigned reports are listed on the Class Schedule. If reports are turned in after 5:00 p.m. on the Friday they are due, then 50% of points will be deducted. Assignments more than 1 week late will not be accepted.

Reference Notebook: There will be no final exam for this class. However, to make sure you have the information about habitat assessment that you may need when you complete this class, you will be asked to create a final reference notebook that will be due the last Friday of Class before finals (December 12th @ 5:00 p.m.)

Grade Evaluation: 8 Reports (each worth 50 points)

400 points

  Oral Report and Data Presentation 30 points
  Pop Quizzes and In-Class Assignments    30 points
                        Final Reference Notebook    40 points

Total Points

500 points

Grade Distribution: A=90-100% | B=80-89% | C=70-79% | D=60-69% | F=<60%
Academic Dishonesty Policy: Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated in this class!  Any form of cheating, copying, or plagiarism will result in 0 points for the assignment and a possible failing grade in the course.  The severity of the punishment is at my discretion and may include pursuing dismissal from the University.  I will follow guidelines for Academic Honesty (Article II) in the U of I Student Code of Conduct.
