As we mentioned in Module
11.1, leadership is a term that is
commonly used when referring to sports stars, politicians,
teachers, parents, coaches, military personnel, managers,
others. Unfortunately, using the term is easy, but leading is
not. Being an effective leader requires more than a title or a
position. Because managers operate with and through others to
achieve organizational goals leadership is an essential skill
for all managers who wish to be successful. |
In addition to the individual activity, think about people from
your own life (coworkers, coaches, parents, friends) who seem to
be good leaders; people who seem to practice the recommendations
described in the Module 11.1 readings: 1. Revisit Power (pp. 137-139)
2. Revisit McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y (pp. 30, 268)
3. Chapter 11: Leadership and Trust
