Psychology 472 / 572

Prerequisites:
There are no Prerequisites for this class.  However, it is strongly suggested you have taken a basic biology class and an overview class related to chemical addictions.

Welcome to Psychology 472/572:  This course is designed to provide an overview of information related to various psychoactive drugs.  This course is not designed to discuss psychotropic medications that are often prescribed to individuals with a variety of psychological disorders.  The class that discusses these topics is Psychology 490/590 (Psychopharmacology).  The primary focus of this course is on the biological aspects of illicit drugs and how they work.  The course will also discuss aspects of the addiction process and how drugs alter brain functioning that ultimately results in behavioral changes.

Note:  This course is more difficult than other substance abuse courses.  Make sure that you are spending time (at least one hour per night) to understand the concepts.  Finally, make sure that you read the course requirements and the syllabus and the due dates listed in the schedule. I hope you
