Lesson 8: Psychedelics / Hallucinogens / THC / Synthetics
Introduction:   Hallucinogens and other psychedelic like drugs have been used for many years.  Often these drugs occur naturally in nature.  Thus, they thus have been used by many cultures since early written  history.  Before the 1960's, most of these drugs were usually consumed as part of worship services. Since the 1960's these drugs have become popular for their qualities to heighten awareness and enhance sensitivity.  This section will review a variety of psychedelic type compounds and their mechanisms of action.

Goals:  This section will help you identify various types of psychedelic type compounds, their use, and mechanisms of action.  It also has a significant review of THC and ways to use this substance.

Outcomes: After completing this lesson you should be able to:

bulletIdentify different types of hallucinogen categories
bulletIdentify how hallucinogens impact various body structures
bulletUnderstand how hallucinogens interact with other compounds
bulletUnderstand side effects of hallucinogens

Objectives:

bulletBe able to differentiate between the different types of psychedelic drugs from their neurotransmitter mechanism of action.
bulletUnderstand the cultural context for the use of certain psychedelic compounds.
bulletUnderstand the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of various psychedelic compounds.
