Sabbatical in TaiwanSally Machlis was on sabbatical in Taiwan for the fall semester of 2007. As a visiting artist at National Chiayi University, she co-taught Sociology of Art, conducted studio critiques, and delivered lectures at four universities. Most importantly, she had time to work on her own artwork. She attended classes in calligraphy and Chinese brush painting to familiarize her with the traditional medium of ink. In addition, Machlis had two solo exhibitions of mixed media artwork, one at National Chiayi University and one at the Art Center of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology. She also enjoyed the art, culture, sights, food and friendly people of the beautiful island of Taiwan. explore » |

Dog-Eared PublicationsIn the 1980s Sally Machlis partnered with a good friend and colleague, Nancy Field, a wildlife biologist, in creating a series of environmental children's books. Nancy researched, Sally illustrated and they put their heads together to create fun educational activities. While I have moved on to academia, Nan continues to write books and manage the successful business called Dog-Eared Publications. explore » |
