   HYPOTHESIS

OBSERVATIONS:

•  Heat differentiates between down on the floor (windows/door let some cool air in) of the store and up on the loft (heat rising and lower ceiling height)
•  Fan above the loft is working twice as hard as the fans above the main space but may not be as effective as needed
•  Lighting may be overdone
•  There are some acoustical differences between the bottom floor and the loft
•  Some glare on bottom floor
•  Barista station is not an overheated area because of the high ceiling above it

HYPOTHESES:

1. There is a substantial glare issue (above a 20:1 footlamberts ratio) on the first floor due to the east and south facing windows.

2. The espresso machines radiate an excessive amount of heat, the barista station stays within the comfort zone of 65-78 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. The stratification of air temp from the first floor to the loft causes a temperature variation of greater than 5 degrees Fahrenheit. causing the loft temperature to rise above the comfort zone of 78 degrees.

4. The second floor lighting is excessive during the daylight hours and can be cut in half while still supplying adequate light for reading of 10 footcandles.
