Hypothesis # 1:

We will determine the amount of glare reflecting off of the shop’s floor by using an illuminance meter/ luminance meter and Rascal.  The tests will be completed on both overcast and sunny days to determine how much light is being let into the space.  The glare issue and its effects will also be determined in a part of our survey.

Hypothesis # 2 ( Barista Station/ stratification):

To see how much heat is being produced by the barista station and how much is being lost through stratification we will place several Hobos (also using the ping pong ball to test radiant heat) in different locations to determine the temperature differentiation.  The Raytek will also be used to determine body (employee), barista station, wall, and loft temperatures.  The survey will be a valuable determinant in finding out the comfort levels of the spaces as well.

Hypothesis # 3 (Stratification throughout):

The testing for stratification will be done solely through Hobo data and survey results.

To test whether or not the light levels in the loft are more than sufficient for working conditions we will used the luminance meter as well as the flicker checker to see what type of light is being used and its efficiency.
