Overview

As you learned in Chapter 1, a central requirement of all managers is communication and interpersonal skill. This module explores some of the challenges of communication and the critical interpersonal skills necessary for effective management.

Objectives


After completing this module, you should be able to:

1. describe the basic components of the communication process
2. describe how perception can influence communication
3. understand how empathy can increase communication effectiveness
4. describe the link between empathy, active listening and the conflict styles
5. describe how methods for overcoming communication barriers
6. describe the role of information technology in business communication
7. understand negotiation skills and strategies
