"Shading Device Analysis"

 Due the First Monday in November at 10:30 am.  No credit for late projects!

 On a sunny day observe how the sun can be kept out of the interior of buildings by vegetation, skin elements, glazing types, or window elements.

Find and describe three different external shading devices on local buildings. Each device should face a different direction. They may be attached to a single building or selected from several buildings.

• Observe and record (with sketches or photographs) how they function on a sunny day (am, noon and pm)
• Give their orientation and classification (fixed or movable; horizontal, vertical, or egg-crate).
• Use Heating Cooling and Lighting Design Guidelines to indicate their relative usefulness for "full shade" 
•     OR... use the shadow producing tools in Sketch-up, Revit or other modeling software
• Comment on their appropriateness and suggest alternate devices (even if the one in use works).

For buildings that are shaded by trees or other vegetation, you may photograph the building and analyze the effectiveness (%) of shading.
