Extra Credit #4

"Thermal Performance Critique"

Due at the final exam.  No credit for late projects!

This Extra Credit counts toward your Lab grade.

Using the techniques and software you've learned in class and in lab write an illustrated evidence-based critique of the thermal performance of Miller Hull Partnership's 747 North Clark Street apartment building in Chicago.

You can find a description of the building on Architectural Record's web site.

  • Comment on how well it follows design recommendation for Chicago's climate [Climate Consultant].
  • Analyze the thermal performance of a single unit with SBEED.
  • Use Sefaira or CoveTool to analyze whole building performance.
  • Suggest changes that could be made to improve the performance of the existing building (you can't reorient it!).
  • Summarize your findings in a robust conclusion.

Format: 8½" x 11" sheets. Submit as PDF to <mespinosa@uidaho.edu>.
